This surge in crime is not limited to home invasions. The Toronto Star reported today that vehicle jackings and auto thefts are seeing the same disturbing trend in activity.

The Toronto Star also claims that “so far this year, the city has seen 68 carjackings, which is a 106 per cent increase compared to the same period last year and 34 break and entry offences for auto theft, up from 22 in all of 2023”

Increase in Crime Nationwide

Stats Canada reported in February that crime in Canada is trending up.

With the reported crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants up 5%, and the crime severity index up 4.3%.

Crime is surging in Toronto, and across Canada generally, but Canadians have heard from little from their leaders about what is causing it, or how they plan on addressing it.
